Every four years the world comes together to share their interest for the most popular sport in the world making the World Cup one of the most communal activities on the globe. In this Thursday’s opening game, we’ll see the host country, Brazil, take on Croatia, officially kicking off four weeks of football. Many fashion labels (Versace, Stella McCartney to name a couple) have decided to embrace the communal spirit of sports and are flirting with football for the moment in some pretty cool ways. In streetwear, major sports lifestyle companies are looking to cool boutique labels for collaboration while younger labels are taking on the theme of their favourite sport, resulting in a few looks that we’d love to indulge in. Here are five World Cup 2014 streetwear creations that can make even the most unenthusiastic football fan jump for joy.
1. Adidas X The Farm Company– Adidas collaborated with Brazilian design house, The Farm Company, and created a tropical collection of jackets, short sets, bags and floral patterned Gazelles. It’s an awesomely colourful way for girls to show their World Cup spirit.
2. Puma X Mihara Yasuhiro Pau Brasil Sneaker– This sleek collaborative sneaker from Puma’s more artistic “Black Line”, uses the delicate imagery of the native Pau Brasil flower on a black or white classic puma style, making it informative and cool.
3. Nike X Patta- Nike teamed up with the Danish label Patta to redesign their classic Tiempo style for the World Cup and along the way created a few awesomely retro jerseys.
4. Adidas World Cup Battle Pack– It’s a battle pack from Adidas in preparation for the World Cup so…. if you’re going to battle for your team this year, you should be sporting these cleverly patterned styles in the streets.
Nossa World Cup Shirt– Inspired by the Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders album cover, Nossa, a small streetwear line out of Brazil, created a World Cup 2014 shirt that features the top 42 players from 32 qualifying countries. Who knew hip-hop and football went so well together.
