In Perspective: Style On The Fringe of The Met Gala

.

British Singer  Karen Elson

This year’s Met Gala honouring mid-century couturier, Charles James, came to a close Monday night and Instagram was in a tizzy, eager to share images of celebrity styles that an army of photographers snapped as they promenaded up the red carpet. I do love looking at celebrity outfits on red carpets, as much as the next girl, but there is also a sense of insincerity that comes along with these ensembles. Rihanna, Beyonce, Rita Ora, Kim K… yes they looked amazing but they also have a long line of wardrobe stylists, hair stylists, makeup artists and brand endorsements to suit them.

Let me clarify, this article is not an attempt at celebrity bashing– these leading ladies have definitely grown into their style over the years– but rather an opportunity to shed some light on the more behind-the-scenes industry mavens who consciously considered the Charles James perspective as an inspiration for their Met Gala ensemble and took a few fashion risks along the way. Cheers to these ladies on the fringe for their creative and various interpretations of the Charles James ball gown.
